LOGISTIC PARAMETERS - Duration: 5 hours - Departure Point: Torre Cabrera - Guide languages: Italian and English DESCRIPTION OF THE EXPERIENCE The landing in Sicily, particularly near Capo Pachino, was an important event of the Second World War. On 10 July 1943, Allied troops landed on the Sicilian coast, with the aim of opening a front in continental Europe and invading and defeating the Kingdom of Italy. The proposed itinerary touches the main places of memory of the war event ITINERARY: - Modica Museum of Sicily 1943 memory: Visit to the museum and re-enactment of Operation Husky and in particular the landing of the US troops between Scoglitti and Licata - Pozzallo: visit to the places of defense and military interest of 1943, to the industrial sites subject to bombing and to Piazza Rimembranze - Punta Castellazzo (Ispica): visit to one of the sites of the Allied landing in Sicily on 10 July 1943, as part of Operation Husky, commemorated by a plaque. British and Canadian troops landed east of Punta Castellazzo, in the bay of Porto Ulisse, encountering limited resistance from Italian forces. The whole area between Pachino, Portopalo and Ispica-Pozzallo was affected by the landing of the Commonwealth troops - Noto: visit to the underground shelters of the beautiful baroque town (a re-enactment and entertainment event is planned). - Cassibile: visit to the Cassibile museum exhibition of memories and images. The armistice of Cassibile, signed on 3 September 1943, provided for the unconditional surrender of Italy. - Syracuse Visit to the Syracuse war cemetery known as the English cemetery where a thousand soldiers from the Second World War of the Commonwealth (British, Indian, Canadian, New Zealander and South African) are buried.
