Sinatra's Loggia (Santa Maria Maggiore)

Designed by the Neto architect Vincenzo Sinatra in the second half of the 18th century, the Loggiato is one of the most scenic structures in the whole of Sicily. Characterized by a semicircular shape that recalls Bernini's colonnade in St. Peter's, this "embrace" of limestone was conceived to define and enhance the space in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. The golden stone, typical of the Ibleans, captures the sunlight creating plays of shadows and reflections that change as the hours pass, offering the visitor an impeccable theatrical perspective. Walking under its arches means immersing yourself in an era of urban splendor, where the harmony of forms served to demonstrate the power and refinement of the city rebuilt after 1693.
