Feast of San Sebastiano
Palazzolo Acreide
It's not just a procession, it's a cathartic explosion of faith and folklore. The most awaited moment is the "Sciuta" (the exit) at 1.00 pm, when the simulacrum of the Saint emerges from the baroque church amidst the firing of thousands of firecrackers and the launch of the "nzareddi" - strips of colored paper that literally darken the sky, creating a breathtaking visual effect. The Saint is carried on the shoulder "naked" (by bare-chested devout bearers) in an atmosphere of indescribable fervor, amidst cries of devotion and the scent of basil that adorns the fercolo, making this celebration one of the most powerful and photogenic in the whole of Sicily.
