56th Pozzallo Fish Festival
Pozzallo
The 56th Pozzallo Fish Festival, which took place from 29 to 31 August 2025, represented a moment of extraordinary participation and identity pride, transforming Piazza delle Rimembranze into the beating heart of the Mediterranean. The event was able to combine record numbers, scientific culture and high-level entertainment, confirming itself as a strategic driver for tourism and the local economy.
The 2025 edition was characterized by a massive turnout from the first evening, with thousands of visitors storming the gastronomic houses. The data from the inaugural day reveal an overwhelming desire for participation: over 250 kilos of prawns, 400 kilos of fried paranza and around 1,200 fish mafalde served testified to the excellence and freshness of the local catch, expertly prepared by local chefs.
In addition to the pleasure of the palate, the event offered important moments of reflection and dissemination. Of particular importance was the conference organized in synergy with the University of Catania, dedicated entirely to blue fish. This meeting allowed us to delve deeper into the nutritional properties of sardines, anchovies and mackerel - pillars of the Pozzallo navy - underlining the value of Omega 3 and the sustainability of this resource for the health and economy of the sea. The cooking shows then translated these notions into practical advice, transforming the square into an open-air culinary laboratory.
The artistic schedule was able to involve a heterogeneous audience through a rich and lively programme:
The opening evening was crowned by the concert in Pago, which made the packed square sing in a highly evocative atmosphere.
The second day featured the music of Povia, whose melodies accompanied an evening full of choreography and folk performances.
The grand finale was entrusted to the energy of LDA, highly anticipated by the youngest, who closed the edition with a live performance full of emotions.
As underlined by the mayor Roberto Ammatuna and the deputy mayor Raffaele Monte, the festival is not just an event, but a symbol that unites tradition and the future. The choice to place the event at the end of August proved to be a winning one, ensuring continuity of the tourist season and recording widespread sold out in the accommodation facilities.
Thanks to the support of the Regional Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, the European Union (through the FEAMPA fund) and the inclusion in the Sicilian European Region of Gastronomy 2025 circuit, the 56th Fish Festival has projected Pozzallo into an international dimension, celebrating an ancient bond with the sea which continues to be successfully renewed.
